index review for my PGP support sessions

I started experiencing PGP at 26 weeks - it appeared to come from nowhere. Up until then, I had a really active pregnancy until one day I was unable to get myself home from walking our dog and the pain went downhill over the next two weeks.

Googling PGP made me feel lost - everything I could find on the mainstream internet put it down to baby position, high BMI, and of course hormones. And 90% of the time PGP seemed to be summarised as “ just one of those pregnancy things” - almost said in a light-hearted, flippant way. Or “don’t worry, it will all be worth it” This made me dread and feel almost lost about the remaining 14 weeks of my pregnancy.

I contacted Dr. Lucy after I found her through the Pelvic Partnership. One of the biggest pieces of advice she gave to me when I wasn’t experiencing much support through my Physio was “this is your body, yours to manage and yours to decide how you want your manual intervention to be structured”. These simple words were a game-changer. I changed practitioner and was more directive with the specialist care my body needed. I am now 35 weeks pregnant and see a Chiropractor twice a week who understands what I’m going through and who reassures me I shouldn’t have to just accept it as “one of those things”.

I am still in a lot of pain. Some good days, some bad. Tonight is a tough evening for example - my husband had to help me sit down. Whilst the physical side has been a daily challenge, the mental improvement alone has been a game-changer through the advice, guidance, and knowledge given to me. I have techniques to manage PGP thanks to Dr. Lucy.

No one should just have to accept it and be told “it’s one of those things and it will all be worth it”. The mental side can often be the most debilitating but there is amazing, caring support out there - unfortunately with PGP you just need to look for it a bit harder than you would expect. Thank you Dr. Lucy
